Drug charges result for three New Jersey residents after crash

Three New Jersey residents were recently arrested and are currently facing a number of drug charges. A van that they had been in was involved in an accident. The collision damaged one of the van's tires and they set off to fix it.

The crash itself is what sent police looking for the van. Police found the vehicle as well as the three individuals standing outside the van trying to figure out how to deal with the broken tire. When police took a closer look at the van, they found some drug paraphernalia.

Apparently there was what appeared to be heroin on the driver's seat as well as items used to carry heroin on the tow truck that was near the van. It appears that police suspected the three of trying to hide the paraphernalia by throwing it on top of the tow truck.

All three were questioned and allegedly told police officers three different stories. When asked about the drugs and the other drug-related items, all three reportedly denied involvement. But sometime during the questioning, police discovered that one of the individuals had ingested two bags of heroin; she was immediately given medical attention.

As a result, all three were charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled dangerous substance
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Being under the influence of drugs

The woman who swallowed the bags of heroin was also charged with attempting to destroy a controlled substance.

Being charged with multiple drug crimes can lead to severe consequences. Though it is unclear what specific penalties these three individuals may be facing, general penalties often include years in prison followed by probation.
